English by books (Book Club)

This is a course for literature lovers who like reading and discussing a good book in English. We will talk about the author, the structure, the themes and the characters in the book. Reading is a healthy habit, is fun and often gives food for thought. So why not join our group to improve your English vocabulary while enjoying a good selection of classic and contemporary literature? This class is suitable for anyone with a B2 level and up (mbo/havo/vwo niveau).
Booklist 2024:
“Wuthering Heights” by Emily Brontë. A dark and passionate novel of love and revenge on the Yorkshire moors.
"The Help” by Kathryn Stockett. A compelling story with multiple narrators; set during the 1960’s in the American South, a time of significant racial tension. 
“Brave New World” by Aldous Huxley. A dystopian novel that raises questions about technology, conformity and the cost of a utopian society.
“The Book Thief” by Marcus Zusac. A historical novel set in nazi era Germany, narrated by Death. 
“Where the Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens. A mystery and coming-of-age novel set in the marshes of North Carolina.
“A Farewell to Arms” by Ernest Hemingway. A classic novel set in WWI following the story of two lovers, it explores themes of love, war and the human condition.

You have to purchase the books yourself or borrow them from the library.
